Model Portfolios

At In A Flash Photo we love to work with newcomers and amateur models who want to create a professional looking portfolio, print or digital, to launch their careers.

But at the same time, we will be happy to assist current and professional models in updating their portfolios, too.

Whatever your experience or skill level In A Flash Photo will be there to help you along the way.  We will make recomendations and suggestions on poses, hairstyles, wardrobe, facial expressions, etc.  We will work with you to create the best possible results that you will be proud to display.

We work with a generally accepted "formula" of shots designed to demonstrate a model's range of looks and abilities.  Some will be serious looks, others will be smiling, yet others "flirty."  We shoot closeups, medium closeups, head/shoulder portraits, whole-body pictures.   Model's should show that they can wear a wide variety of wardrobe.  Each outfit is shot from every possible angle to maximize your "ideal" angle.  The more you can show your ability to successfully wear different  types of outfits, the better your chances.  We usually stick to the basics here:  Formalwear, Contemporary Fashion, Curve-conscious outfits, swimwear, lingerie/underwear, and lastly "Glamour."

This leads to the often-asked question by new models......."Do I have to do nudes for my portfolio?"  The answer is fairly simple.  You don't have to do, or wear, anything you don't feel comfortable with.  If you don't feel confident in what you're wearing, it's going to show in the pictures.  By the same reasoning, you can't let others dictate what they like or dislike.  It's about YOU; not them.  If your parents, significant other, or great-aunt Gertrude don't approve of what you're wearing, but YOU feel good in it, too bad for them.  This is YOUR career---NOT theirs.  You must make your own decisions.  Same for the nudity issue.  If you want to add nudes to your portfolio, that's fine.  But don't let anyone tell you that you'll never get any kind of a job without doing nudes or that you MUST do them.

Here are some in-studio portraits as well as on-location photos that we shot during the Spring and Summer of 2005.
